| 2007 | Molnar Poseidon's Vineyard Carneros Pinot Noir The Molnars bought this land in the early 60's, at a time when the Carneros land was used for grazing sheep. They knew that the cooler climate would benefit Pinot and Chardonnay. Yields were way down in 07, almost a quarter lower than expected with tiny berries and high skin to juice ratio. This made for good color and flavor extraction. The 07 Pinot is a charmer, beautiful nose of rose petals, plum, cinnamon, and orange rind. On the palate, the floral expressions carry through with dashes of cherry cola and custard, with excellent acidity and balance The velvety mouth-feel is awfully seductive as one gets drawn back to the glass. Michael Terrien, the winemaker at Hanzell, is also the talented winemaker here. | $29.50 | ||

| 2007 | Toulouse Anderson Valley Pinot Noir The 2007 Pinots from the North Coast look to be stupendous wines. Case in point is the 2007 Toulouse Anderson Valley Pinot Noir. Vern Boltz, a retired Oakland Fire Captain, is the proprietor and winemaker. He caught national attention with his 2005, which received gushing accolades from reviewers. His 2007 is every bit as good, perhaps even better. The nose is absolutely packed with bright cherry fruit. On the palate, a panoply of flavors, including sweet Bing cherries, plums, tar, mace, and mocha marry with firm acidity and a nice earthiness to make for a glorious mouthful of wine. This wine has aromas of cherries and cocoa. There is a nice earthiness on the palate with a good attack. Red and black fruits abound, with hints of cola and nutmeg. The wine has good grip and will continue to improve in the bottle. |
