|2012||Margerum Riviera Rosť|
Tasted this great, Grenache-based Rosť last week and sure enough the San Francisco Chronicle writes a nice piece about it over the weekend. Doug Margerum has gone with a bit more whole cluster and less saignee to create a more complex wine. But this isn't about thinking, this is about drinking, and this Riviera drinks beautifully. Note from the Wine Spectator, "Bold, floral strawberry aromas lead to racy dried cherry and spice flavors in this rosť."
|2011||Hartford Court Russian River Valley Chardonnay||$29.95|
|2009||Januik Cabernet Sauvignon|
Mike Januik, formerly the winemaker for Chateau St Michelle has been making wine under his own label for a while now, but he still seems to be undiscovered. I've been a fan of his well-priced, vibrant Cold Creek Vineyard Chardonnays. This 2009 Cabernet is off the charts. This wine was the talk of a trade tasting recently and for good reason. It's a mouthful of great Cab fruit, much of it from the great Champoux Vineyard. It's a complex wine with tar, blackberries, lavendar, cedar, and fine-grained tannins, impeccably balanced, with a finish that goes on and on. The 2008 received an other-worldly glowing review from the Wine Spectator and a 94 pt score.
