A blend of Teroldego, Charbono, Carignane, Negrette, Nebbiolo, and Pinot Noir, many of which were sourced from the terrific Fratelli Vineyard in Santa Clara. This wine sings with blackberry and plum flavors, with hints of asian spicebox, lavender, and tar. With bright fruit and a panoply of lush flavors, this wine is not to be mistakened for your parents' Italian red.

2009    Januik Cabernet Sauvignon
Mike Januik, formerly the winemaker for Chateau St Michelle has been making wine under his own label for a while now, but he still seems to be undiscovered. I've been a fan of his well-priced, vibrant Cold Creek Vineyard Chardonnays. This 2009 Cabernet is off the charts. This wine was the talk of a trade tasting recently and for good reason. It's a mouthful of great Cab fruit, much of it from the great Champoux Vineyard. It's a complex wine with tar, blackberries, lavendar, cedar, and fine-grained tannins, impeccably balanced, with a finish that goes on and on. The 2008 received an other-worldly glowing review from the Wine Spectator and a 94 pt score.
